Scrapes
A typical scrape is an area two to three feet in diameter where a buck has pawed away surface leaf litter to expose bare soil, which he then urinates on. You can find fresh scrapes nearly year round, but the majority of scrapes occur as the breeding season of the whitetailed deer begins. As bucks become solitary travelers, scraping activity increases greatly. This occurs a few weeks before the first females breed.
